Best place to exchange money

Main Post:

Hi everyone,

I'm going to Spain soon. Should I exchange my pound notes in Spain or is there a good place to do it in Leeds? Ta :)

You are 100 percent better off withdrawing from a fee free atm in Spain with a fee free debit card e.g. starling / chase. Your exchange rate at a bank or supermarket will be poor - you can compare rates online on money supermarket etc but the best way if you need cash is always withdrawing from an atm.

Also unless you're going very rural, most places will take card

Come to Leeds and your money goes further, the quality of life is better and you’re only two hours away from London on the train if you need to meet with clients - why Leeds is one of the UK's leading technology hubs

Guy with a gammy leg asking for money

Main Post:

Yesterday, I got approached by a guy asking for money to get a bandage for his leg. The thing is he approached me about 8 months ago asking the same thing and his leg looked awful. I told him to go to hospital, but what's his deal? Does he do this regularly? Does he just never get actual help for his leg? How has he not got sepsis yet? So many questions.

I think I know the guy you’re referring to, if it’s the same one he’s been doing it for years.

People knocking on doors asking for money?

Main Post:

I've recently moved house a couple of months ago and over the past couple weeks we've suddenly started getting people knocking on our door asking for money. Not like, charity collectors or anything like that, just random people. It's happened twice now, I'm not trying to judge whether their stories are true or not, I'm just wondering whether this is a common thing? I've lived in Leeds for over 2 years and never had this happen before, plus we only moved a few streets away from our previous house when we moved. I've never known this happen before moving to Leeds either.

I was on the phone to my mate who was parked up in Kirkstall last week and in the middle of the conversation I heard some banging on the window and my mate said “hang on” anyway I could hear what was going on and basically this guy had seen him drinking from his flask of tea and started asking him if he could drink it. My mate asked if he had a cup? Then the conversation switched to him asking about money instead etc... and started getting a bit shirty with my mate.

Anyway he fucks off and my mate returns to the phone and I asked what was that all about and he confirmed what I heard and described the guy, and told me it’s the third person that’s done something similar that week while he was working in Kirkstall.

We both reckon that people are getting more desperate, sitting on a path in the rain isn’t cutting it anymore.

I was sat outside North Bar/Sela/Wax last week and I must’ve have 8-9 people asking for money in the space of a pint, now we give some coins to the first couple but we had to tell the other 6 or 7 that others had got there first and we had no coins left.

As a friend group we’re all empathetic to people in this situation and have always done what we can but it’s starting to get a bit intrusive when supping from a flask of tea in your car on your break from work is alerting desperate people.

Edit: I’d just like to add that I’ve just had a ride into town on my pushbike and someone attempted to steal my bike from me near Royal Armouries, a scruffy fucker with a ginger beard stepped out in front of me and shouted “Gimme your bike”. He backed off when I said “Fuck off you soft cunt, I’ll kick fuck out of you first”, he instantly calmed down and started trying to be my mate “Ere, I was only joking mate, messing about n that want I? ... sorry mate” all that shite.

These people don’t scare me but I feel sorry for the young students, tourists, who get some aggressive tramp trying to shit them up and take things from them. Does my head in.
